View PDF · 4.3 MBWhat this proves I chose to include my career research presentation because it shows my learning skills and how I can find and organize information about a job I'm interested in. It's also a good example of communication since I had to present that info so it made sense to other people. This kind of focus and being able to stick to a plan are employability skills that I use to get my work done.
40-question self-assessment identifying my primary roles (Thinker + Carer, Leader as backup) plus three skills to actively improve (Use Numbers, Communicate, Work With Others), each paired with a concrete method. A short summary also lives on the Skills & Work Samples page.
View PDF · 520 KBWhat this proves I have chosen to include my teamwork style questionnaire because it demonstrates my communication skills, specifically my ability to listen before contributing to a group. My results identified me as a mix of a Thinker and Carer, which shows that I communicate by weighing alternatives and ensuring everyone in the group feels heard. Instead of just pushing my own opinions, I focus on fostering good working relationships and improving upon the ideas of others. These skills in active listening and conflict resolution are essential employability traits that allow me to communicate effectively and keep a team working harmoniously toward a common goal.
A visual record of school, community band, parade, and ceremony performances that show reliability, rehearsal habits, and teamwork in real ensemble settings.
What this proves I chose to include my history of band performances because it is a good example of my teamwork skills and how I can contribute to a group goal. Playing in both school and community band has taught me how to collaborate with all kinds of people, where everyone has to listen to each other and stay in sync to sound good. This experience shows that I am accountable and reliable because if I don't know my part, it affects the whole section and the overall sound of the music. Being able to follow a conductor's lead and support the other musicians are important skills that I use when I need to work effectively as part of a team.

What this proves I included these awards from Russell High School because they show my commitment to excellence and my ability to succeed in many different areas. Winning awards for Language, Art, and "Conceptual Clarity" demonstrates that I have strong communication and creative skills, while my "Most Effort" award proves that I'm a hard worker who stays dedicated to a project until it's finished. My more recent awards for the highest average in Grade 11 Math and Grade 12 Music show organization as I move into more advanced classes. These are all important employability skills because they prove that I can be counted on to do high-quality work and keep improving, no matter the task.

View PDF · 4.3 MBA final reflection on what this portfolio proves and how the course changed my understanding of my skills.
Building my portfolio taught me that many different experiences contribute to my skills, even if it isn't obvious at first. For example, I used to think I was bad at communication because I can be quite shy, but I realized that I don't have to be an extrovert to be good at communication; as long as I put in the effort to understand a concept and can share it clearly with others, I am using communication skills. This experience also made me aware of how many steps are actually required to get a job and just how many different types of skills exist in the workforce. I used to think I lacked a lot of necessary traits, but now I realize I have more skills than I thought, and improving on my weaker areas isn't impossible. It has showed me that I don't have to be perfect at everything immediately, as long as I am willing to put in the effort to get better.
My portfolio communicates three important things about me: that I am a hard worker who persists even when things are difficult, that I am a good listener who can collaborate to achieve a common goal, and that I am always willing to learn because I truly care about my work. The best part of my portfolio is how my prior achievements prove I have real experience working with others in a team. However, one area that could use improvement is my leadership, as I tend to be more comfortable working on the sidelines. While I know being a supportive team member is a skill of its own, I want to get better at taking charge when the situation requires it.
